2007-Nov-18 - Will the OLG Have its Own Way?
With the rule that came into effect on September 17th, retailers in Ontario will not be allowed to buy or cash lottery tickets in their own stores, but they'll have to go to other locations. The rule has not been enforced yet, but the notice has been sent electronically by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. what means that enforcement will take place in the nearest future. And if it does, lottery merchants will be prepared to voice their opposition of the rule.
It has become known that since 1999 retailers have collected more than $100 million in fraudulent claims. The OLG is trying to curtail some of this fraud in this way.
